The RCMP 'H' Division in Nova Scotia is under contract to the province to act as the primary organization responding to requests for GSAR, as well as to provide air and marine SAR assistance when requested. The RCMP, under current acts and legislation, is legally responsible for GSAR activity in Nova Scotia, where they are the Police Agency of Jurisdiction.
The RCMP's activities involvement in SAR activities includes assessing search needs, supplying Incident Commanders, offering communications, technical and financial support and assisting with training and development of organizational staff and volunteers.
