Founded in 1971, this organization co-ordinates the
use of provincial resources in support of land, marine and air SAR
services. In an emergency search, EMO determines the availability of
support and acts as a direct liaison between the responsible
authorities and SAR service providers.
In addition to its work with the RCMP and the NSGSARA,
EMO assists federal air and marine SAR operations on request by the
Rescue Co-ordination Centre (RCC) in Halifax.
The individual GSAR teams operate under the umbrella
of and have official status with, the EMO (N.S.). The EMO (N.S.) has
devided the province into three zones; Western, Central and Eastern
(a map of Nova Scotia showing the zones is available on the EMO's own
WEB page).
The teams are shown on the Team List, showing which
zone they are located in (A map of Nova Scotia showing the EMO Zones
can be found on the EMO (N.S.) WEB site).
Each Zone has an EMO Zone Controller.
